Faculty Resources for Teaching & Learning

Institutional Research

Assessment data on the program learning outcomes is collected from each course through the use of signature assignments. The Signature Assignment Information Packet provides a detailed explanation of what data is collected and provides sample data submissions.

Rubrics

Faculty are encouraged to use rubrics to evaluate class assignments, especially the signature assignments. Rubrics have been developed for the Institutional Learning Outcomes adopted by JPCatholic. These rubrics can be used as a guide for developing other rubrics or modified to evaluate a specific class assignment.

There are also many resources available online to help faculty develop their own rubrics.
  • What are Rubrics?: a basic definition of rubrics along with the advantages of using them; also includes sample rubrics.
  • Understanding Rubrics: a longer article with an introduction to rubrics, how to create them, and why they are useful.
  • Rubistar: provides templates for creating rubrics and has a searchable database of rubrics created by others.
