Aid Renewal
When a student is first accepted to JP Catholic, they are invited to apply for institutional financial aid.
Institutional financial aid is a gift to a JP Catholic student from a JP Catholic benefactor. It is not an entitlement.
The initial financial aid award is made for the student's first two quarters on-campus.
The renewal of financial aid for subsequent quarters is dependent on three critical student performance metrics:
- Spiritual Growth Commitment
- Commitment to Building Community
- Academic Performance - measured by cumulative GPA
1. Spiritual Growth Commitment
JP Catholic requires ALL students to make a reasonable commitment to grow spiritually. The student agrees to two weekly and two quarterly spiritual growth activities
- He/she will attend the weekly all-campus Mass (Wednesdays).
- He/she will spend one full hour per week in prayer in the campus chapel (sign-in required).
- He/she will attend 'On-Mission' events - usually twice per quarter (sign-in required).
Students who embrace and fulfill these commitments will be eligible to retain their financial aid.
Students not meeting this commitment will lose all their financial aid independent of the other two commitments.
2. Commitment to Building Community
JP Catholic students receiving financial aid must demonstrate a commitment to build community and must not participate in community destroying activities.
Examples of Community building activities include: Active membership in a household or campus club; teaching RCIA/CCD at Good Shepherd; active in San
Diego pro-life prayer groups and events; leading a sports activity for students
Examples of community destroying include: immodest dress; excessive video gaming; poor hygiene; lying; argumentative; non participation in JP Catholic
social events. Students involved in community destroying activities will lose all their financial aid independent of the other two commitments.
3. Academic Performance Commitment:
JP Catholic students receiving financial aid must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
After a student completes his/her second quarter at JP Catholic – their financial aid renewal is described in the table.
If their ‘cum GPA’ exceeds 3.0 in a later quarter, their financial aid is restored and remains as long as their ‘cum GPA’ remains above 3.0.

Student Commitment Assessment Board:
This group, appointed by the President, will make a determination of each student's commitment to both 'Spiritual Growth' and to 'Building Community'.
Near the end of each quarter, all students interested in retaining their financial aid will submit a 1-page report detailing their
commitment to both 'Spiritual Growth' and to 'Building Community'. The Board will review these reports and will decide whether the student has actively,
somewhat, or rarely participated in the spiritual life activities on campus, in the parish and in the community. The Board will discuss their decision
individually with students they deem have not been actively participating - giving them the opportunity to describe in person their commitment.

Two Examples: John Doe and Jane Anybody each received $6000 of financial aid as incoming freshmen to JP Catholic. This equates to
$2000 per quarter of financial aid.
John Doe performs very
well academically and has a 3.2 cumulative GPA at the end of Winter quarter of his freshman year. Starting Spring Quarter, he is eligible to retain 100% of his
financial aid based on his academic performance. But John rarely participated in spiritual activities on campus with his fellow students during his
Fall and Winter quarters. From the 'Student Commitment Performance Metric' table above, he is eligible for 0% renewal of his financial aid for his
freshman Spring quarter.
His scholarship for the Spring quarter will be $0.
During that Spring quarter, John becomes somewhat active in the spiritual activities on campus. Because of his increased
'commitment' John's financial aid will increase to 50% of his eligible financial aid starting in the Summer quarter, which is
equivalent to $1000 per quarter. In Fall quarter of his sophomore year, his cumulative GPA remains at 3.2 while his participation in spiritual activities
increases to active. Beginning Winter quarter, his financial aid is back at 100%. It will continue at
100% as long as his cumulative GPA remains above 3.0 and he actively participates in spiritual and community building activities.

Jane Anybody gets a 2.87 cumulative GPA at the end of her freshman year. She has been very active in her participation in spiritual
and community building activities on-campus throughout her freshman year. She will receive only 60% of her eligible
financial aid beginning her sophomore year because of her low GPA. During the Summer quarter, she continues her active participation in spiritual activities
on-campus and improves her
cumulative GPA to 2.95. Starting her Fall quarter, Jane will now receive 80% of her eligible financial aid. In Winter quarter, her cumulative GPA reaches
3.1 and her active participation continues - her financial aid is back at 100%. It will continue at
100% as long as her cumulative GPA remains above 3.0 and she actively participates in spiritual and community building activities.
