Campus Culture: Casino Night By Elizabeth Merriman At JP Catholic, we have several fun events to get us, the students, together for a night of fun and a break from studies. Last week we had our first Casino night. Collin Clark, a Resident Assistant here on campus organized the whole thing. When we arrived at the event, we were really impressed with the set up. The tables were covered with green felt blackjack boards, and poker boards. There were dimly lit lamps on each table just as there would be at a casino. A few of the faculty where there as well to be the dealers at each table. When we arrived we each got a bag of playing chips, and of course some potato chips to eat as we played. We didn’t play with real money, just the poker chips we were given. Joan Connolly, a student here along with Maggie Mahrt the RD pushed around a drink cart where we were served different beverages. One was creatively named “Derry Connolly” after the President at the school and it was a mix of lime juice, sprite and sparkling apple cider. We also had some other drinks which combined different juices and sprite. We had some snacks such as bagel bites, chips with dip, cream puffs, dinosaur chicken and so much more. When the night was coming to a close we all counted up our winnings and the top four winners received gift-cards to Starbucks, Jamba Juice, or the movie theater next to our apartments. It was a really fun night. All the students, including myself had a great time. |
