Board of Regents
The Board of Regents is a non-fiduciary board, established by the Board of Trustees, with a special emphasis on stewardship and development of the institution's financial and physical resources, the academic enterprise and the university's standing in the community. The Board of Regents can have as many members as required to effectively fulfill its goals. Each member is asked to commit to serving a single three-year term. After serving a term and if the member wishes, he/she can serve a second term. The Board of Regents will meet twice a year.
Fulfilling the university's core mission to Impact Culture for Christ and its academic purposes depends integrally on securing the resources required. The Board of Regents is concerned with the university's immediate needs and should help assure a continual flow of fresh insights and experience into the university. The Board of Regents will maintain its own standing committees in the areas of stewardship, community relations, and academic excellence and relevance. The Board of Regents has a shared commitment with the Board of Trustees to integrate their complementary efforts, and to create a more focused forum to address matters of strategy and policy. The Board of Regents and the Board of Trustees will interact regularly to take advantage of one another's complementary strengths. Committees will meet as frequently as needed. The Board of Regents Chair and committee heads will be invited to attend Board of Trustee meetings. Members include:

Sandy Murphy is a stay-at-home mother of three girls: a junior at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC majoring in elementary education; a freshman at Pt. Loma Nazarene University who is majoring in film; and a sophomore at Cathedral Catholic High School, and is the wife of Mike Murphy, CEO of Sharp HealthCare. She homeschooled her three daughters for eight years using Mother of Divine Grace and Regina Coeli Academy curricula for Catholic homeschoolers. She serves in volunteer advisory capacities with CYT, Christian Youth Theater, and Life Perspectives. She also serves as the 'Life Matters' culture of life coordinator for St. James in Solana Beach. Sandy and her husband are newly invested members of the Equestrian Order of the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher. In addition, they are members of the San Diego Chapter of Legatus. Sandy is also a member of Women's Christian Fellowship, a Catholic woman's Bible study at St. Elizabeth Seton in Carlsbad. Previously, Sandy was the vice president of PR at Cox Communications.
Paula Brock is the CFO for San Diego Zoo Global. Previously, she was the founding partner in Brock, Tibbitts & Snell, an Accountancy Corporation, specializing in due diligence and securities work. She served as Senior Vice President and Senior Financial Officer at ITT Residential Capital Corporation with assets of $700 million and a mortgage-servicing portfolio of over $2 billion. She was also the Senior Audit Manager with KPMG. Paula received her BS degree from SDSU. She is a member of Financial Executives International, the American Institute of CPA's, the California Society of CPA's, American Woman's Society of CPA's, American Association of Zoos and Aquariums, American Association of Museums, and Legatus International. She is actively involved in numerous church and community organizations.
Nick diNapoli is the founder & creative director of Drive Studio, located in Carlsbad, CA. Nick has almost 2 decades of experience in the motion graphics industry. Drive Studio is a design and production resource specializing in network branding, identity creation, show packages, promotion and new media outlets. With a unique emphasis in designing and directing brands for international audiences, Nick's work spans the globe from the US to Scandinavia to Asia. In 2000, with his business partner, he formed Drive Studio to offer complete 'design through production' resource for the broadcast design and production industry.
Deacon Keith Esshaki is the founder and CEO of GTC Systems Inc, a company that specializes in Virtualization, IT staffing, Infrastructure as a Service (Cloud Hosting). Deacon Keith graduated from UCSD with a degree in Applied Mathematics. He has been a semi-finalist, two years in a row, for the Ernest & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and a finalist for the 'Most Admired CEO Award' awarded by the San Diego Business Journal. He and his wife Amy are active with St Peter's Chaldean Catholic church in El Cajon, CA. His daughter Miriam has graduated JP Catholic and his son Simon and daughter Mary are current students.

Cindy Hailey is a California native now living in Germantown, Tennessee. She graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a B.S. in Human Services. Prior to raising a family, she worked in fundraising and sales. Most recently, she has served on the Catholic Schools Advisory Board for the Diocese of Memphis as Vice President and President, and was a committee member for the most recent and largest capital campaign for Memphis Catholic Schools. She serves on the Women's Guild at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish. She has volunteered in prison ministry and is actively involved in Cursillo since 1979. She is married to Rhett Hailey and is the proud mother of five children.
Everett P. 'Rhett' Hailey is partner and CEO of Evaporcool Systems, LLC, and partner and 50% owner of Hackmeyer-Hailey Properties, a commercial property management firm. Rhett graduated from Mississippi State University in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the Trane Company, where he quickly rose through management to develop his district into one of the most profitable operations in the country. He has won numerous awards in engineering, and has served as President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers. He is a partner and investor in over 20 private companies, and serves on the Board of Directors of Polar Wrap, Kelley Fleet Services, and Hackmeyer Heidrich. A member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, he is married to Cindy Hailey and is the proud father of five children.
Matthew Pinto is the founder and president of Ascension Press, a leading Catholic publisher, and has been at the forefront of multiple Catholic initiatives for the past 20 years, including the Theology of the Body Institute, Envoy Magazine, Catholic Exchange.com, and The Maximus Group, a full-service Catholic marketing and public relations agency. Prior to his work for the Church, Matt founded and ran, Pinto Communications, a boutique advertising and marketing company based in Philadelphia. Matt has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books and Catholic educational resources, including The Amazing Grace Series, a Catholic Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and A Guide to The Passion: 100 Questions About 'The Passion of the Christ, which went on to sell more than one million copies in just fourteen weeks. His bestselling books for Catholic teenagers include Did Adam & Eve Have Belly Buttons? and Did Jesus Have a Last Name?. A native of Philadelphia, Matt and his wife Maryanne and their six children live in Pennsylvania.
Lawrence E. Schauf retired Executive VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Jack in the Box, which he joined in 1996. He served previously as the chief legal officer, senior VP and secretary for Wendy's. He began his career in private practice before serving as assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice from 1974 until 1977. He joined Pizza Hut as assistant general counsel in 1977 and in 1981 was named VP of government relations. In 1984, Schauf co-founded the Popingo Video franchise chain, where he also served as general counsel and senior VP of franchising. He joined Wendy's in 1987 after serving as a special franchise consultant to Pizza Hut. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and serves on the board of directors of the International Franchise Association. In addition, he has served as president and board member of the National Council of Chain Restaurants and is a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. Schauf is a member of the American Bar Association and several state bar associations. He received a B.A. degree from Wichita State University in 1968 and a J.D. degree from Washburn University Law School in 1971.
John Smedley is President of Sony Online Entertainment. John oversees the company's overall vision and growth. He has more than a decade of experience in the interactive entertainment industry, including positions with ATG, Knight Technologies and five years with Sony Online Entertainment as Director of Development. Smedley was instrumental in the creation and development of the original, groundbreaking EverQuest (EQ), and was co-founder of Verant Interactive Inc., which became Sony Online Entertainment after it was purchased by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2000. In April 2008, SOE transitioned to Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) in a strategic move to closely align itself with the strong growth of the worldwide online gaming market. Under Smedley's visionary leadership, SOE has grown from a small developer with a single online PC game to an industry leader with millions of subscribers and multiple titles published on PC, PlayStation, PSP, wireless and handheld platforms. Smedley and his family attend St Michael's parish in Poway, CA.
Ed Snow is a Principal at TTM Engineering, an engineering services firm focused on the embedded software market with experience in code management, defect tracking, automated test, regression test, and test management at any point in the product lifecycle. He was formerly Vice President of Engineering at DriveCam, a company that focuses on improving risky driving behavior by predicting and preventing crashes using its exception-based video event recorder. Ed has MSEE in the Real Time Operating Systems from Carnegie Mellon University and has worked with Digital Equipment Corporation and Hewlett Packard. Ed and his wife Anne live in Rancho Bernardo and have 2 children. They attend St Michael's Parish, Poway.
Gen. John Wakelin is a Brigadier General (retired) and is the Deputy Program Manager of ARMY Research Laboratory at SAIC. John joined SAIC in 1989, after completing 30 years of active U.S. Army service retiring at the rank of Brigadier General. His last military assignment was serving as the Joint Staff Deputy J-6 (communications) for the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). He commanded tactical communications-electronic units through Airborne Signal Brigade (Fort Bragg NC). Level of experience ranges from engineering and employment of most tactical communication capabilities, digital telephone systems and satellite communication systems. Managed large programs and Program Managers in the military and for SAIC. John and his wife Jan attend St Michael's in Poway.
