1. The New Catholic University for Media & Technology Inaugural Gala – Sept 25th.
The New Catholic University for Media & Technology Inaugural Gala is just one week away – Saturday Sept 25th.
If you have not purchased your tickets, please consider doing so immediately – our Gala Committee requires
a final attendance number estimate for the hotel by mid-week. For complete details, please call

Gala Program:
The Master of Ceremonies will be Jerry Usher, Program Director for Catholic Answers Radio and host of
Catholic Answers Live radio show.
Pre-dinner: Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego will be in attendance and will lead
the Grace and make some introductory remarks.
After-dinner program: Speakers will include
- Fr. Darrin Merlino, C.M.F. a Claretian Missionary Catholic Priest. He is a graduate of
Franciscan University of Steubenville. His ordination Mass was the first ordination broadcasted live via
Internet in the United States. He has been active in media ministry over the last 15 years, working in
radio, television and print. He has hosted a community access cable TV show called “Sacred Heart Outreach”;
co-hosted a live call-in catechetical TV show called “Yesterday, Today and Forever” to teach the Catholic
Faith in its history (Yesterday), what the Church is doing (Today) and its teachings (Forever). He has
adopted Claretian founder, St. Anthony Claret’s motto from St. Paul of “The love of Christ impels us!”
His personal mission is to preach the gospel to the entire world in “urgent, timely and effective ways.”
- Dr. Derry Connolly, a co-founder of NCU, will share the vision, the promise, the academic
programs and the challenges of New Catholic University. He will share details of how NCU plans to create
a university that will equip its graduates both with the skills and confidence to build and participate in
sustainable businesses, and with a dynamic orthodoxy of faith for passionate practice in the work place
and marketplace.
2. NCU in the media: NCU continues to get rave reviews in the press.
- National Catholic Register featured NCU in a lengthy article entitled “'Uncompromising Catholicity'
New Catholic University Pedges Fidelity and Effectiveness' by Carlos Briceno in its Sept 5-11, 2004
