3. Alan Lane joins NCU Board of Trustees:
Alan is President/COO of Southwest Community Bancorp, and CEO of the company's Item Processing
subsidiary, Financial Data Solutions, Inc. Prior to joining Southwest Community Bancorp, he was
President/CEO of Business Bank of California until the bank's sale to Union Bank of California in
early 2004. In addition to his financial institution experience, Alan has served as President/CEO
or Chief Financial Officer of both manufacturing and retail companies, ranging in size from $10

supplements headquartered in San Marcos, CA. Alan and his wife Debbie live in Temecula, CA, and
have five children and one grandchild.
4. NCU has obtained federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code:
The IRS has determined NCU to be exempt from Federal income tax under section
501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code on 10/25/04. This means that financial contributions to
NCU received after its incorporation date of 12/3/2003 are deductible under section 170 of the code.
NCU is also qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests devices, transfer and gifts under sections 2055,
2106 or 2522 of the code.
5. NCU awaits State of CA BPPVE approval:
NCU is still in the waiting phase to get approval to operate as a degree granting institution from
the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, part of the California Department
of Consumer Affairs. The bureau regulates approximately 3,000 private schools serving an estimated
400,000 students. NCU submitted its application to the BPPVE on July 6, 2004, and expects a ruling
on its request to receive temporary approval during January 2005. The approximately 250-page
application a copy of a proposed university catalog and documentation including financial
statements and future projections, along with student enrollment projections; and a fee of $4,560.
Approval is required to recruit and admit students. Please pray for a timely approval from the State.
6. NCU Trustees meet with Thomas Aquinas College Founding President:
NCU Trustees Philippe Dardaine and Derry Connolly met with Dr Ron McArthur during October.
In a wonderfully warm and insightful meeting Dr McArthur shared some of the lessons learned over
3-decades ago during the formation of Thomas Aquinas College – which today ranks as a jewel among
faithful Catholic colleges. The hand of the Holy Spirit is very visible in the growth of this
wonderful college. Read the history of Thomas Aquinas College.
7. Now you can contribute to NCU online:
A critical element for NCU in getting State of California BPPVE approval is to have a minimum
financial reserve equal to 6-weeks of operating expense. NCU is now 1-year into a 2-year
formation process. If you would like to help to build our financial reserve to get through the
State approval please consider making a tax-deductible donation.
8. NCU needs YOU!
Increasingly more and more people are feeling that NCU is 'their” project too.
The Founders and the Board of Trustees are just catalysts. We have found that the single most
effective way of spreading the word on NCU and gaining supporters is by personal introductions.
In the critical start-up stage, the Founders need a broad base of support to move this huge
project forward.
