1. Senior Class - at last
On March 30, 2009, JP Catholic University will begin its FIRST senior class - a major milestone. The senior class, who will become our first graduates on the feast day of Our Lady of Gaudalupe, Dec 12th, 2009, began in our first FRESHMAN class on Thursday, September 21st, 2006.

2. Interesting Factoid
Because of JP Catholic's year round program, each academic quarter will be missing a class from one of the academic years. For example, Spring quarter will never have any Sophomores and Summer will have no freshmen. Fall 2009 will be the only quarter to have all 4 classes on campus at the same time - because the current seniors did not have classes during their first Summer quarter.

3. Europe Study Abroad Program
30 Sophomore and Junior students are now returning from 2+ weeks in Europe as part of the study abroad program. Students spent a week in West Cork, Ireland where they examined the rapidly changing Irish culture, and a week in Rome where they attended Pope Benedict's general audience and explored the finest Catholic art with Prof Barber. Many students opted to spend 2 additional weeks roving around Europe. Spring quarter begins March 30th. Read a student's blog on the trip.

4. Student Blogging
Take the pulse of JP Catholic. Read what 8 of our students are experiencing in a Blog they write and update daily. Read their stories.

5. Winter Quarter Visitors
On Feb 18th, Bishop Brom celebrated Mass for students. Dr George Delgado, a Physician with the Culture of Life Family Services, spoke to students during the monthly 'On-Mission' event of the challenges of being a pro-life doctor in a pro-abortion culture. He detailed the shocking implications of the pending FOCA legislation, which he described as FOKA - Freedom to Kill Act.

Dean Batali, executive producer for “That 70’s Show,” and writer for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” told students during a lunchtime lecture of the challenges facing Christians in Hollywood today. Monsignor Jim Lisante, a regular contributor to Fox News Channel and ABC 'Eyewitness News' and current host of an annual NBC Special called 'Personally Speaking', celebrated Mass for students and urged them to use the media for good.

Rob Long Rob, a writer and producer who served as co-executive producer in the final season of 'Cheers'; has received two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe awards; and is a contributing editor of National Review, shared his thoughts on the rapidly growing field of New Media and his experiences in the dying field of Old Media with JP Catholic students during a lunchtime lecture. Listen to Rob's talk.   Read Rob's Blog.

6. New degree programs
Three new degree programs are on tap at JP Catholic University. They are:

  1. MA in Biblical Theology (starting Fall 2009). The degree can be completed in 2 years of full-time study and 3+ years of part-time study.
  2. MBA (starting Fall 2009) with an emphasis in Entrepreneurial Business, and a
  3. BS degree in Technology (starting Fall 2010) with an emphasis in Computer Engineering.

The new programs are critical components of the university's plan to educate students to build businesses that will impact the culture for Christ.

8. Scholarship funding required for students with financial need
We are currently seeking critical scholarship support for students with significant financial need. There are a handful of current students who will not be able to continue their education at JP Catholic without this additional financial support. Please call Dr Connolly at 858-653-5740 if you are able to fund a scholarship in any amount.

If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to (this) mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. Luke 17:6
