Joseph was raised in San Diego. Previously, he assisted the Director and Associate directors in carrying out the social mission of the Church for the Diocese of San Diego. Prior to that, he was a teacher at Nativity Prep Academy. He attends Good Shepherd parish in Mira Mesa.

Education
Joseph graduated University of San Diego in 2002 with Bachelors in Religious Studies and Spanish and in 2004 with Masters of Education. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
